BINSA is a diverse not for profit organisation
recognised for work with people with an
acquired brain injury (ABI)
The Community Awareness Project is funded by the
National Disability Insurance Agency(NDIA).
A fundamental purpose of the Community
Awareness Project is to help recruit, support and
manage the volunteers that may be involved in
assisting people with the best possible outcomes
from the NDIS. By creating volunteer opportunities
and helping to effectively engage volunteers
as well as building their skills through training,
BINSA will multiply their impact in these remote
areas, build organisational capacity in relation
to the External Merits review, and support the
development of future sustainable activities in
Barkly region and beyond. Potential volunteers will
have local and accessible informed support and
culturally appropriate training to improve their
ability to develop knowledge and expertise in
what is realistically achievable for NDIS participants
within the context of the NDIS legislation.
Also, by involving local people who have knowledge
of the culture, there is a strengthening of trust in
serving community needs. Working in partnership
with Indigenous people will greatly assist the
relationship-building process and help to break
down barriers. By maximising relationships with
various groups, other relevant disability agencies
and regional connections, there will be an increase
in local ownership as well as local community
capacity; thereby ensuring anyone potentially
eligible for the NDIS is not going to miss out on
receiving key information and/or advice.
