TONIGHT + WED 7 OCTOBER
TENNANT Creek Speedway ended their season with
all engines revving.
It was the time everyone wanted to race their best, not only
to claim the Tennant Creek Title but to pay respect to the Josh
Josh Reid was remembered on the night as a great-natured boy
who had a passion for speedway and his motorbike.
With the Reid family unable to attend, the speedway community
rallied together to support something dear to their hearts.
A candlelight balloon release was done at interval in memory
of Josh, followed by a minute’s silence.
The good old Barkly wind decided to let us know that Josh was
with us in spirit and kept everyone on their toes trying to keep
their candles alight.
On behalf of the Reid family the honour of presenting this
year’s Josh Reid Trophy recipient was passed onto Justin Hooker,
President of Tennant Creek Speedway.
This trophy is presented to a junior that has just started out
racing with great sportsmanship, positive attitude and displays
a passion for racing.
Michael Jones was the proud recipient of this Trophy this year.
Michael Jones, Little Boy Blue, commenced racing in May
this year and has shown a great passion for his racing. Michael
always makes an effort to encourage other racers in his event
and congratulate them on their races.
With the Tennant Creek Title up for grabs for each class it was
fast action-packed racing all night.
The junior sedan drivers returned for the final meet of the year
and put on a great show for everyone.
A field of seven lined up for the All Stars Junior Sedans. Lance
Carew showed he was a force to be contended with and gave it
his all in every heat and the feature.
The other lads though were not going to make it easy. Corey
Greening tried hard to keep Lance out.
Lance battled his way and chased down the other racers though
and came home with the title, backing it up from last year.
The Junior Rising Stars also had some close racing.
In one of the heats Keira and Michael battled it out, swapping
positions right up to the last corner. Shane Greening tried his
best to keep up but these two were just too quick on the night
in the heats.
Michael’s dream of trying to win the Tennant Creek Title was
dashed when his motor blew up in the third heat.
Final came down to Shane Greening and Keira Weller. Keira
showed that girl power was with her when she took the chequered
flag with a commanding lead.
The Formula 500s was a battle between two locals, Kerrin
Giezendanner and Justin Hooker.
With mechanical issues troubling Justin all year it was great to
see him in the feature race.
Kerrin had secured pole line in the feature but it was Justin that
took off when the green light came on.
No matter what Kerrin tried it was Justin Hooker who took
victory in the end.
Street Stocks were last up.
Rod Berry came up from Alice Springs to take on local contend-
ers and again showed he was up for the race in the heats.
In the feature it was all on for young and old. In the first lap of the
feature Rod and Col had a bit of a bingle so a restart was called.
Rod Berry fought hard throughout the race and no matter what
the local lads tried they couldn’t take the lead from him.
Rod took out the Tennant Creek Title for Street Stocks. Presenta-
tions were held after racing and the results were:
Tennant Creek Title Junior All Stars: 1st Lance Carew, 2nd
Corey Greening, 3rd Riley Egan.
