FOR FIT-DIS SAKE
The 2016 theme, ‘Healthy Eating, Healthy Living’, is to encourage the community to keep living
a healthy lifestyle or begin living one. ‘For Fit-Dis Sake’ is an activity in this year’s Festival, that will
begin 8 weeks prior to the Festival opening.
For Fit-Dis Sake’focuses on:
The program will be targeted at young people but is open to everyone. Participants will partner
with a ‘star’(person with a disability; such as an intellectual disability, physical challenge, ADHD)
to form a ‘team’. People are called a ‘star’ because often they shine in the shadows, and if we
are serious about ‘Healthy living’, then everyone has the right to feel connected, appreciated,
The ‘star’ will identify a ‘dream’ they would like (a ramp, new coloured scooter, funds for a trip,
art or music equipment, anything at all!) Together they will raise funds, through fitness activities to
contribute towards that ‘dream’.
Participants will register 1 month in advance of the Festival and start to undertake fitness
activities. The more fitness activities taken place, the more funds they can seek.
The ‘team’ will ask someone to donate $25 for them to attend a 1 x 1hour fitness class.
If the team creates a fitness activity over 90km they may ask for 10 people to donate $100. Or a
$25 donation for participation in the Festival ‘Lifestyle Mornings’ program.
The FOR FIT-DIS SAKE program;
Fitness: Teams can create their own or utilise already existing activities happening in the
community. Such as- Sport and Rec, Kirsty Dance School, Helen Marsh exercise classes etc. The

Dance-A -Thon for particpants to be a part of too.

time with the ‘Sugar Squad’ in Tennant Creek.
For Fit-Dis Sake’ teams will receive a pack:’For Fit-Dis Sake’ t-shirt, ‘That Sugar Film’ DVD.
A community awards ceremony will take place on Monday 1st August at 3:30pm in Peko Park.
All participants will receive a certificate and a cheque for the amounts they have raised. ‘Teams’
who have raised a first, second, third and last place will each receive a bonus amount to
contribute towards the ‘dream’.
To highlight our 2016 theme, ‘Healthy Eating, Healthy Living’, this years festival is having a
major focus around sugar. To do this we have engaged 2 celebrity ‘Health
Amabassadors’ who have become experts on sugar.
Damon Gamaeu, is the creator of the internationally renowned film, That Sugar Film. THAT
SUGAR FILM is one man’s journey to discover the bitter truth about sugar. Damon Gameau
embarked on a unique experiment to document the effects of a high sugar diet on a
healthy body, consuming only foods that are commonly perceived as ‘healthy’. Through
this entertaining and informative journey, Damon highlighted some of the issues that
plague the sugar industry, and where sugar lurks on supermarket shelves. THAT SUGAR FILM
will forever change the way you think about ‘healthy’ food.
Damon and his wife Zoe Tuckwell-Smith (who actually got Damon onto a healhier lifestyle)
has created countless sugar free recipies, will join Damon as our 2nd ambassador, along
with their daughter Velvet. They will fly courtesy of Airnorth airlines (Festival Supporters).
Whilst here they are engaged to do a number of things, some of these include:
They will work with Karen’s Kitchen Training and Hospitality program to design a healthy
luncheon for the Festival on Saturday July 30th.
Zoe will be the celebrity chef for the kids BP World Kitchen cook off on Sunday July 31st.
Damon and Zoe will work with a local ‘sugar squad’ who have been studying his school
