Community Reference Group –
Expression of Interest
Are you excited by libraries, literacy and
literature? Have a passion for Territory history and culture?
The Northern Territory Library is establishing a Community Reference Group to give
the community a say in our future directions.
We are seeking expressions of interest from members of the community to
join this group, which will meet twice per year. Membership from all over
the Territory is encouraged, and we will try to ensure that people can
participate in meetings remotely. Membership of the group is for a
three year term.
The Northern Territory Library has two key functions:
• to collect and make accessible Northern
Territory history and culture, and support
the discovery and creation of Territory
• to lead, develop and represent the
Northern Territory library sector,

ANIMAL WELFARE FUND
Grant Program Now Open
The Northern Territory Government is pleased to invite
submissions for the 2016–17 Animal Welfare Fund Grant Program.
The fund supports Northern Territory not-for-profit organisations
to undertake animal welfare projects that have the potential to:
• improve animal well being
• raise community awareness of responsibilities in regard to
• help promote and improve good animal management practice,
particularly in remote communities.
Guidelines and applications forms can be downloaded from

The Department of Health is pleased to announce nominations are now
open for the 2016 Northern Territory Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
Health Practitioner Excellence Awards.
There are four award categories open for nominations. These categories
are: Remote, Urban, Specialist, and New Practitioner. The overall winner
from these categories will be named the “Legend” for 2016.

The 2016 Northern Territory Aboriginal and
Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioner
THE Tennant Creek Showgrounds will be upgraded to the tune of
$100,000 as part of the NT Budget 2016.
And the Roper Gulf Regional Council will receive $25,000 to improve the Bor-
Community groups that utilise the showgrounds on a regular basis will also benefit
from the improvements.
Chief Minister Adam Giles said the Country Liberals Government recognised the
important role showgrounds have in communities like Tennant Creek and Borroloola.
“The showgrounds are much-loved assets, enjoyed by many interest groups in
addition to staging agricultural shows,” he said.
“All of the Northern Territory showgrounds have potential to showcase and support
local and Territory-wide activitiy creating positive social and commercial benefits
and we are proud to support the managing organisations.”
MAKEOVER TIME: The Tennant Creek Showgrounds will be
ALMOST $50 million has been al-

been offered on the Territory mainland.

incentive was included in the Budget
because she wanted Aboriginal people to
realise the benefits of home ownership in

the rest of the Barkly had an opportunity
to receive the best possible outcomes.
$24 million will be spent on hospital
services in the region, including patient
travel, and $6.5 million will go towards
primary health care services in urban and
