Join Arrernte, Gurindji and Worimi man, Yagan Satour and his alter ego “Star Aqua
Galactica” in a Drag show that launches you into outer space and on a journey of
understanding, awakening and out of this world style! Only on at Desert Harmony
Festival, Sunday July 31st, civic Hall, 4:30-5:30pm.
‘past racism/ future rights’ is a fun and thought provoking multimedia Drag
production exploring racism and identity in Australia, created by Yagan Satour, a
young Indigenous gay man with an intellectual disability.
This is Yagan’s first developed show and tells of his experiences living in Australia as
a gay Aboriginal man with a disability, the racism he’s seen and the discrimination
he’s faced. Helping Yagan to share these stories are a bunch of his friends-
Indigenous mob from his community who bring their narratives to the show.
‘past racism/ future rights’ was a sold out success at the 2015 Wominjeka Festival
(Melbourne) and the 2016 Festival of Live Art (Melbourne). Yagan Satour and Star
Aqua Galactica have also enjoyed acclaim at the Alice Springs Pride Carnivale,
Darwin Pride Festival and Darwin Fringe Festival and has made multiple appear-
ances on ABC radio including ABC’s Radio National and ABC Local Radio (Mel-
bourne, Darwin and Alice Springs).
ABOUT YAGAN SATOUR & STAR AQUA GALACTICA
Yagan is a 25 year-old; stage loving; Arrente, Gurindji and Worimi gay man with an
intellectual disability. He is a Scorpio born in the year of the Metal Horse (this is the
year of the Wooden Horse). His rising sign is Aquarius and his moon is in Capricorn.
He loves science fiction. Star Aqua Galactica is his drag persona. She is a Sagitta-
rius and an Earth Snake. She is 24 years old. She was born in the 1980s (when Yagan
wanted to be born... he missed this by only 10 months and 21 days). Together, they
are on a mission to battle racism and discrimination and spread love throughout
the universes and galaxies beyond.
“I like to perform drag. I really wanted to do a drag performance about racism –
the way Aboriginal people have been treated – because I’m one of those people.
Because it’s wrong - it needs to change. I believe in acceptance with all cultures,
not just Aboriginal people. I want people to open their eyes and realise what they
are doing is wrong. And I believe this performance will make a difference.”
‘Past racism/future rights’ is Yagan’s message to the world to respect one another
and to love yourself and be loved no matter who you are.

a stop at the Home of the Cheeky Dogs with Dion Beasley, a disability and youth
exhibition at Barkly Arts and a world premiere exhibition at Nyinkka Nyunyu, ‘A

In 2014 Barkly Regional Arts received a grant for the community of Mungkarta to
return to their homelands, so that they could teach and show the younger
generation their scared sites, the land their art and stories connect to and specific
cultural practices. BRA’S Media Mob documented the journey and produced a
40 minute documentary. ‘A Place Called Walabanba’ exhibition will premiere this
documentary along with a series of artwork that explains their dreaming.
