NGP project management participate in
Cultural Heritage Awareness Training
Qld pipeline contractor appointed
Managers from Jemena’s Northern Gas Pipeline (NGP) project recently participated in Cultural
Heritage Awareness Training in Queensland.
The training included classroom style sessions with the Indjalandji and Kalkadoon people,
along with visits to sacred sites.
The NGP will traverse 622km in both the Northern Territory and Queensland. In keeping with
Jemena’s commitment to respect and preserve culturally significant sites and artefacts, the
training highlighted the deep connection and feelings Aboriginal people have in protecting
their heritage and environment.
Jemena has appointed Spiecapag Australia to construct the Queensland portion of
the $800 million Northern Gas Pipeline project following a four-month competitive
tender process. The announcement means Jemena has now appointed
construction partners for the full-length of the 622km Northern Gas Pipeline.
Project Director Jonathan Spink said Spiecapag Australia would construct about
141km of the pipeline from east of the Queensland border to the pipeline’s end-
point near Mt Isa.
“They are seasoned pipeline constructors well equipped to respond to the unique
terrain the pipeline will cross in Queensland, and have a reputation of working
collaboratively and closely with local communities,” Jonathan said.

NT pipeline contractor mobilises
Construction of the NGP’s Northern Territory section of pipeline will begin soon
with mobilisation of McConnell Dowell’s plant fleet and personnel underway.
The first of four Vermeer 1055 Trenching Machines and first of three SPD-250
Padding Machines have started their journey to Tennant Creek.
The trenching machines are used to excavate the trench and the padding
machines are used to create soft padding material to be placed in the trench
around the pipe to protect the coating of the gas pipeline.
The first contingent of construction workers will arrive in Tennant Creek from mid-July.
With a full spread of equipment and personnel, McConnell Dowell will construct
the pipeline at an average of approximately 3.5km per day.

imperative that the message of

across the entire project, in
particular our construction
