Electric Fields is potent new music bringing together the brilliance and creativity of music
producer and composer Michael Ross, with the mesmerising sensitivity of Zaachariaha Fielding -
whose rare and beautiful voice has been described as ‘taking soul to the stratosphere’.
Co-creating music and delivering a live performance that both excites and moves their audi-
ences, they deliver moments of breathtaking beauty and power, and are already experiencing
large audiences singing back choruses of their songs to them during shows.
Electric Fields are two feminine brothers creating a striking and memorable merging of living
traditional culture with electronic music. Often featuring Zaachariaha’s traditional language of
the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara people, Electric Fields music ranges from soulful pop
to epic-scale electronic works, through to intensely intimate story-songs. Their music reaches an
extraordinarily broad audience, achieving national recognition as a high quality musical
A thread of history and strong, ancient culture flows through the duo’s debut EP, Inma. Fielding
was raised in the APY lands and speaks three languages—Pitjantjatjara, Yankunytjatjara and
English. On tracks such as PUKULPA (‘Happy’), Fielding sings in Pitjantjatjara, telling the listener—
in lush and mesmerising tones—to be happy and be strong. He says the tight-knit community in
APY has given him love, culture, and language. “Home has given me the ability to enter western
society and stand my ground on who I am and where I come from, and to share this with people
through music,” says Fielding. Adelaide Review, 10 March, 2017

Marriage of Figaro. Once again we have embedded a Barkly Youth Choir into the show
as part of Barkly Regional Arts’ community engagement strategies with Opera Australia.
David Crowden, music teacher at TC High School has been engaged as this years Choir
Leader. He has dedicated his afternoons to working with students, teaching them their
chorus parts ready for their stage debut on Thursday August 3rd.
The Barkly Youth Choir will perform side by side on the stage with the professional opera
singers in the show, dressed in costume.

The other ‘community engagement’ initiative Opera Australia is offering is a scholarship
for a secondary school student.
A masterclass/audition will be held in Tennant Creek for up to 10 young people in High

selected and will receive a scholarship to spend a week in Sydney with Opera Australia
