Team travelled down to Alice Springs recently
to play against Yulara in a game for NAIDOC
Being two Aboriginal teams, the boys knew it was
going to be tough and the game didn’t disappoint with
some massive hits and deadly tries.
The All Blacks started strong with captain/coach Matt
Harbisher, Russell Bennett and Benji Torrens leading
the way in the forwards, dominating the Yulara defence
leading to a try in the second set of the game to star
fullback Taito Cadra.
The forwards continued to dominate throughout the
first half backed up with some brilliance by speedy
winger Ben Tuisinu going over for the All Blacks sec-
ond try, converted by halfback Danyon Kerrin.
Yulara hit back with two quick tries and looked to
start taking control of the game before some rock solid
defence by experienced forwards James Sherwood and
Benji Torrens forcing mistakes by Yulara giving the ball
back to the All Blacks.
With dominating forward Russell Bennett off injured,
James Sherwood and Matt Harbisher kept the All Blacks
on the front foot running over the Yulara defence, al-
lowing solid Hooker Joe Walker to carve up the middle
of the field putting Fullback Taito Cadra away for his
All Blacks Halves Danyon Kerrin and Liam Alberts
set the game on fire, both making breaks from their
own half combining for two more tries to fullback
Centre Anthony Lawton was brilliant in defence, let-
ting no one past him, making some crucial tackles on
fast Yulara backs.
With seconds to go in the first half, hard running Benji
Torrens ran straight over three players to score under
the posts, converted by Danyon Kerrin making it 30-10
to the All Blacks at half time.
Yulara came out from half time fired up and hit back
on the score board quickly. The All Blacks were poor
in attack in the second half with some silly mistakes
leading to two more Yulara tries.
Halfback Danyon Kerrin took control of the game
with some great kicks down the field putting pressure
on the Yulara side.
Anthony Lawton had some strong runs backed up
by winger Ben Tuisinu that lead to hooker Joe Walker
scoring a try from dummy half.
Tough forward Russell Bennett returned to the field
after dislocating his shoulder got the All Blacks back
on the charge with some strong runs from the back of
the scrum leading to star fullback Taito Cadra’s fifth
try, putting the game to bed 44-32 to the Tennant Creek
The All Blacks are looking to have a game here in
Tennant Creek hopefully in October/November.

THE Tennant Creek Corporate
Golf Day is on again!
This year marks the seventh year
the Tennant Creek Golf Club and the
Chamber of Commerce NT partner to
bring a fun-filled community day to
Tennant Creek, which is being held
on Saturday 29 July.
The course isn’t your green fairways,
lakes and bunkers.
Instead you have red dirt fairways,
beautiful ghost gums, bush scrub and
maybe there’ll be the odd Brahman
It’s a great day to spend with work
mates, meet other people from the
community, and just let her hair down.
This event is an Ambrose, so you hit
the best shot from your team. Nothing
is too serious on the day.
The committee from the golf club
work hard to get the course in shape for
this event, and should be commended
on their efforts.
We start around 12pm with team
registrations and lunch, and concludes
around 5.30pm with a BBQ. Drinks
are served during the game, so every-
one and everything is catered for.
The theme this year is to dress as
a professional golfer! Get out those
checked trousers or shorts, long socks,
and any other accessory you think will
There will be prizes for the best
dressed. The businesses who are sup-
porting this fantastic event are: T&J
Contractors, Marlow & Canete and
Associates, and Remote Concrete NT.
Thrifty supply the drinks cars and the
Lions supply our drinks on the course.
Get your teams organised, and con-
tact the Chamber of Commerce on
