King of Country
SATURDAY 28 JULY
On a sweltering 37 degree summer day a man standing on the
crossroads had left behind his home, his job, his band to spend
8months in the bush and the heart of Australia learning from
Indigenous Elders. As he plucked the strings on that fateful day
he found the rhythm to his rhyme, he found his calling, he found
the music! Catch him live during this mid-week performance.
Catch Megan Jane LIVE for her first Solo gig this year.
Featuring country, rock and modern it’s a great show
on both Friday night and Sunday afternoon.
THE NT Planning Commission
has released the Draft Tennant
Creek Land Use Plan for com-
ment and feedback.
Copies of the consultation documents
are available from the Barkly Electorate
Officer and the NTPC website at www.
The NT Planning Commission, an inde-
pendent body responsible for developing
strategic plans, invites Tennant Creek
residents to shape future land use in the
township via a second stage of public
consultation, noting community feed-
back and investigations from the first
stage of consultation in late 2017.
The Draft Land Use Plan is a long term
vision for Tennant Creek that identifies
land necessary to support future growth.
It provides land for urban residential
and industrial purposes and reinforces
the primacy of Paterson Street as the
main retail and commercial centre for
The Plan further seeks to protect areas
of open space including community
land needs, transport and infrastructure
planning, as well as environmental and
heritage values by ensuring develop-
ment is contained within defined future
The Plan also reinforces the role of es-
tablished public open spaces in and sur-
rounding the town, while ensuring that
the future land requirements for other
community uses are catered for.
Tennant Creek and the Barkly Region is
central to many of the Territory’s mineral
deposits, and the town is strategically
positioned to provide expansion for an
important range of services for broader
regional economic development.
The NT Planning Commission is con-
ducting a community open day at the
Civic Hall on Wednesday 1st August
from 3pm to 7pm with details available
online at www.planningcommission.
Submissions can be made by email to
email@example.com, lodged online on the
Commissions website, www.planning-
commission.nt.gov.au or by mail to GPO
Box 1680 Darwin NT 0801 noting the
closing date 17th August 2018.
Additional lands and planning news for
Tennant Creek is the sale via public auc-
tion of a further 26 lots consisting of both
residential and industrial land.
As a previous Minister for Lands and
Planning 2009-2012, I facilitated the
release of 54 lots in the Peko Road sub-
division now recognised as a thriving
residential area with a capacity of 200
residential lots into the future.
The next land release via public auc-
tion is planned for September 2018
comprising 14 residential lots, 11 Single
Dwelling Residential and three Multiple
Dwelling Residential representing a
staged release allowing market testing.
The industrial land release at Udall Road
will make available 12 new General In-
dustry zoned lots ranging from 2020m2
to 3,360 square metres providing new
opportunities for local business and
Aboriginal Organisations in the devel-
opment of Tennant Creek as a resource
The NT Planning Commission will
be holding meetings with individual
stakeholders throughout the consultation
period and looks forward to receiving
feedback from residents and business.
Good land use planning and strategic
land release for leveraging private sector
and non-government organisation invest-
ment requires real action not just words!
