start for local speedway
TENNANT Creek Speedway
opened its 2014 season on
the May Day long weekend
with an action-packed race
The night started with a parade
of all competitors and a minute’s
silence was held in remembrance
of local speedway legend Trevor
O’Brian who recently passed.
Our condolences go to Trevor’s
family in these hard times and we
are sure he would have been watch-
ing all the action from above.
Two nights of racing were held and
competitors from Tennant Creek,
Alice Springs, Darwin, Katherine,
Western Australia and South Aus-
tralia put on some fast-paced racing
for the motor sport enthusiasts of
With eight different classes and
over 30 competitors, the spectators
were kept on the edge of their seats.
The up and coming racers of the
future put on a show in the Peewee
Three little tackers showed their
racing ability in the Peewees.
Final results: Ryan followed by Jet
Like the junior Peewees, the big
boys on the quads showed some
very fast and clean racing.
It was astonishing to watch the
way they held the bikes around the
corners at such a fast pace.
Final results: 1st Thommo and
If you liked fast, loud racing then
the wingless sprints, side cars and
Formula 500s were for you.
Two competitors in each class
ensured there was some tight rac-
ing. Formula 500’s was contested
by local contender Justin Hooker.
Final results were: 1st Jordie Little
and 2nd Justin Hooker.
Like the Formula 500s, the wing-
less sprints were great to watch
and left everyone in awe of their
speed and handling ability around

2nd Jon Paton
Local Aiden James showed that he
had no fear by swinging for Garth
Thompson in the sidecars.
With his face inches from the
ground Aiden swung like there was
no tomorrow and they managed to
take out the final over Steve and
Aiden said he wished the night
had never ended as he enjoyed it
Final results: 1st Garth Thompson
and Aiden James, 2nd Steve and
If cars are your passion then Junior
Sedans are for you.
Thirteen competitors lined up at
Visiting racer, Kooper Graige from
South Australia, and Lance Carew,
tussled for first place throughout all
Kayla Hooker, Jayden Geizendan-
ner (aka Aussie) and Jack Yates were
loudly supported by the local crowd.
Aussie had everyone screaming
for him when he made a move into
the top four throughout the last race.
Alas, he was unable to hold it but
for his first racing meet he did a
Kayla overcame her nerves and
had a good race meet, even giving
the wall a little kiss in the final.
Jack Yates showed he was a sea-
soned pro with some good hard
racing and ended up fourth in the
final. Final Results: 1st Kooper
Graige, 2nd Lance Carew and 3rd
The bombers may not have been
very pretty looking but by gosh
these competitors didn’t mind an
action paced race.
A little bit of rubbing is racing so
they say and they did not disappoint.
Each race was full of close racing
from 1st position to last and the girls
were up there in the action. Go girl
Final results: 1st Brett Thompson,
2nd Thomas Pfennig and 3rd John
Last event was the 20/20 Street
Throughout the heats spectators
were treated to some spectacular
Local Allan Spence had a hot
water problem and had to quickly
exit his car.
Colin Fry had some flames coming
out of his engine at the end of a heat.
Then he had some throttle prob-
lems in another heat and slowed his
car down by using the wall.
The wall won that round and left
Colin unable to race.
The final race was down to four
Some very close racing was had
between Justin Brumfield and local
The crowd was on their feet cheer-
Justin held it though and took out
Final results: 1st Justin Brumfield,
2nd Brett Brooks, 3rd Shaun Jones
and 4th Coin Menzie.
