TWO Clontarf Academy students from the
High School are kicking goals in more ways
than one on Kangaroo Island, Australia’s
third-largest island after Tasmania and Mel-
ville Island, which lies 112 kilometres south
west of Adelaide off the coast of South Aus-
Year 12 students, Nicholas Corbett, 17, and Nicholas
Tracker, 18, were chosen to participate in the 2014
Clontarf Work-Football Experience on the Dudley
Peninsula along with Jack Walsh from Geralton and
Leroy Turner from Alice Springs.
During the six month program the participants will
undertake a variety of work and skill development such
as firewood collection, vineyard maintenance, house
painting, sheep crutching, building and general duties
at the local IGA supermarket.
Tracker has successfully completed a course which
allowed him to gain his forklift license, an opportunity
which was denied to Corbett due to age constraints.
Apart from his personal development achievements,
Tracker proved to be an outstanding footballer on the
ground but has since been plagued by back and ham-
Corbett has been working well both on and off the field
and is second on the Kangaroo Island Football League
goal kicking list after he notched up an impressive seven
goal score in a KIFL match in early May.
The two Nicks are already giving back to the program
as much as they are personally gaining from it by under-
taking umpiring and coaching duties for the Kangaroo
Island junior football competition.
A combined KI league team took part in the annual
Mortlock Shield football competition held in Port Lin-
coln on the Queen’s Birthday long weekend.
Australia’s longest running country football carnival
saw seven teams compete for the coveted trophy in
2014, namely, Lincoln City, Lincoln Districts, Great
Flinders, Eastern Eyre, Mid West, Far West and Kan-
