Tennant pays tribute to service men and women
1 min read

THE RSL committee’s hard work in the weeks leading up to ANZAC Day has resulted in a meaningful and impressive event in Tennant Creek.

The RSL served as a focal point for the community, starting with the Kapyong Korean War remembrance on Wednesday.

After a short service, members and guests, including visiting members of 75 Squadron from Tindal, made their way over to the Memorial Club for the traditional Roll Call Dinner.

This gave everyone a chance to get to know the visiting guests in a less sombre setting. Before the first threads of light crossed the sky the following morning, a sizable group of community members gathered for the Dawn Service, joining many groups around Australia and overseas to ensure that the memory of those who served and, in too many cases, died in wars, is honoured.

Many of those stayed on to enjoy a Gunfire breakfast, ably cooked and served by Fire and Emergency Volunteers.

Sadly, the number of veterans marching continues to decline, but community groups that choose to march ensure that the March maintains a respectable size for a town the size of Tennant Creek.

Once again, the march was set off to the impressive flyover by the Air Force.

Tennant Creek will never forget the courage of our service men and women.
