Resident expresses disappointment over Australia Day planning
1 min read

What a debacle Australia Day turned out to be in Tennant Creek.

Despite the controversy of the date, the whole community has turned out in unison to celebrate all we love about the town, the Territory and the country.

Whatever the weather gods threw at us, whatever else was going on, our celebrations have carried on regardless.

The cancellation of the event this year points to one thing, and one thing alone – the Council’s inability to get its shit together.

In the past, the Council has always been able to come up with a contingency plan for rain, drought or disaster.  This year would always be a half-hearted attempt with no elected councillors, but half-hearted is better than no heart at all.

To add insult to injury, our award-winning citizens found out through the NT News a few days later despite the Council’s assurance that the awards ceremony would go ahead.

How disappointing for those who have made a massive contribution to our community.

Is anyone from the Council going to have the fortitude to own this disaster?

Who are you all hiding behind, each other?
