Young volunteers hold pop-up Op-Shop in Peko Park

TIMES have changed in the hospitality/hotel/club Industry – once upon a time the rules were pretty loose about behaviour in licenced premises.

Nowadays Tennant Creek is probably the most regulated and scrutinised town in Australia as regards alcohol consumption and there are major penalties for ignoring liquor licencing laws.

The Tennant Creek Memorial Club was founded as family-friendly alternative to the main-street hotels that were mainly frequented by working men in the day.

The whole demographic of the population of Tennant Creek has changed and operating hours of licenced venues are now reduced.

We have locals and people from all over the Barkly and Tourists that now visit the Club. Most people realise there is a code of behaviour and that behaviour that disturbs or offends other patrons is not acceptable.

All TCMC Staff are RSA qualified and the Security Staff are trained and qualified.

Unfortunately some people still think the NT is a wild frontier and a licenced venue is somewhere you can go and get as intoxicated as you can afford to and everyone else has to tolerate your behaviour – those days are over.

Racism and individual persecution are the first defences used when bad behaviour is called out, and the fules of the Club are applied for the safety of other patrons and to abide by the Law.

Alcohol affects individuals in different ways and at the end of the day, some people can’t handle alcohol and shouldn’t touch it.

NOTE: This letter is not written on behalf of the Tennant Creek Memorial Club.
