BARKLY Regional Council has appointed its new CEO after a lengthy recruitment process by Councillors and the Mayor.

Emma Bradbury joins the Council from the Murray Darling Association as the outgoing CEO.

National President of the Murray Darling Association, Councillor David Thurley, said they are sad to see Emma go.

“Her incredible energy and commitment to process has been well recognised,” he said.

“The partnership between our board and Emma has seen the MDA grow from a regional group of councils to a national powerhouse for local government across the Basin communities.”

Emma is originally from Queensland and says she has spent her career supporting remote, rural and regional areas, and will bring fresh energy and a yearning to achieve the potential she knows is here in the  Barkly.

“The thing that has struck me in the short week I have been here is the richness and depth of the community,” she said.

Outgoing CEO Steve Moore said it was an honour to work for Council for the last 4.5 years and wished Emma the best of luck in the future.

His parting words for the new CEO were “to continue to lobby to improve the Barkly as a whole.”

Ms Bradbury signed on the dotted line this week and will resume her position remotely as sheprepares for her new life in the Barkly and a scheduled return in late February. Council will continue to run all usual hours and essential services in the interim.
