NEW Member for Barkly Steve Edgington was in Darwin last week for a series of meetings with the Country Liberal Party to assign shadow ministry portfolios.

Mr Edgington is the Shadow Attorney-General and Minister for Justice as well as Shadow Minister for Mining and Industry, Aboriginal Affairs, Children and Treaty and Local Decision Making.

He also unveiled his new Parliamentary Office on social media and has just finished moving into the Barkly Electorate Office on Paterson Street.

Mr Edgington said his work experience and professional qualifications were suited to his portfolios.

“Our eight-member CLP team has a diverse range of experience and backgrounds which make us an agile and formidable team,” he said.

“As a qualified legal practitioner with experience working in a number of roles throughout the Barkly including as a police officer, senior public servant and as the mayor who was instrumental in establishing the $78.4 million Barkly Regional Deal, I have developed a range of skills and knowledge that will go a long way towards holding the Gunner Government to account in these important portfolios.

“While I am still settling into my new role and learning more about my portfolios, the Barkly Electorate Office is now open and I encourage constituents to drop in to discuss and issues or ideas you may have which will help make the Barkly the best place in the Territory to live, work, visit and invest in.”

Leader of the Opposition Lia Finocchiaro said the team would begin their work to hold the Gunner Government to account and continue to connect with people across the Territory on issues that matter to them.”

After the portfolio delegation, Mr Edgington and his leader Mrs Finocchiaro visited Tennant Creek this week and remote communities including Ampilatwatja and Ali Curung, plus visited pastoralists to thank everyone for their support.

While in Tennant Creek, Edgo and Lia dropped into his old stomping ground – the Barkly Regional Council – where he was Mayor prior to the August NT Election, to congratulate his successor Jeff McLaughlin.
