1 min read

The outgoing Member for Barkly held his last Seniors Month lunch at the Memo on Wednesday.

Barkly MLA Gerry McCarthy treated the members of the Senior Citizens and Pensioners Association to a meal of delicious tucker to kick off the month.

Seniors Month is dedicated to the continuing contributions of our older Territorians make to the community, with Territory Families funding activities across the Territory to celebrate.

On the August calendar Tennant Creek seniors can look forward to jewellery making, learning Photoshop, card making and a lesson about good health.

Territory Families Chief Executive Ken Davies said Senior Territorians are valued and respected members of our community.

“Seniors are an integral part of our social fabric in the Northern Territory,” he said.

“They have a wealth of knowledge and experience for us to learn from and we need to ensure that we continue to recognise their importance in our community.

“Seniors Month supports community based organisations to stage events across the Territory during August, celebrating our seniors and acknowledging the many valuable contributions they continue to make to the Territory.

Tennant Times reporter Catherine Grimley said Gerry was a congenial host who promised it would not be his last Seniors Month Lunch – as next time he and his wife Dawn would soon be attending as members!
