Elliott Stronger Sisters clear environmental waste
1 min read

GIRLS from the Elliott school Stronger Sisters program recently held their annual canoe camp at Longreach Waterhole.

Upon arrival to a beautiful Longreach Waterhole where they would be camping the girls noticed the spoils of rubbish left on the foreshore.

Over the next couple of days the girls discussed the impact of rubbish on the environment and on the animals around the waterhole. Following the discussions, all the girls became involved in a cleanup and cleared two garbage bags of cans and plastic bottles and a bag of general rubbish.

The Stronger Sisters camp also involved activities to build educational aspects of self-awareness, self-management and social management, including teamwork while setting up and packing up camp.

Parts of the camp had the girls paddling for two hours to explore the various inlets of the waterhole and having occasions to enjoy their morning tea on the banks while watching many varieties of birds flying by.

To keep cool during the day, the girls would swim and play various games while in the water and also in canoes. Canoe basketball was a favourite of the group.

The days were finished with a sunset paddle to take in the beautiful orange sunsets on lovely calm waters while local birdlife settled into the trees to roost for the night.
