Region’s high school students enjoy canoe camp
1 min read

TWELVE lucky students from the Tennant Creek High School Outdoor Education class got the opportunity to venture into the beautiful waters of Longreach Waterhole in Elliott for a three-day canoeing camp, after working on their skills throughout the year.

Some students swagged under the starlit sky while others learnt the fine art of tent assembly.

Students from Elliott and Newcastle Waters schools joined in with the canoeing and swimming activities giving the senior students the opportunity to teach their younger counterparts skills.

Elliott School Principal Kevin Gaskin said staff and students were impressed by the support and aid the seniors provided on the trip.

“We were particularly impressed by the way they displayed their pride and respect for each other, themselves, their family and school,” he said.

In the mornings, the students enjoyed a sunrise paddle while they watched the local birdlife.

Student Boyd Cook spoke about how he learned valuable team building skills.

“The best bit about camp was telling stories with my bro Anugs and having a bit of fun with some practical jokes,” he said.

“I loved canoeing first thing in the morning and watching the sunset.”

Thank you to Anyinginyi Sport & Recreation for helping out with the supply of canoes and kayaks.
