Territory speedway racers flock to compete in Tennant Creek Title
3 min read

THE Tennant Creek Title was contended by a strong field of competitors from across the Northern Territory.

Brett Thomsen and River Spitzbarth travelled to defend their 2021 Tennant Creek Title.

With three local new Star Junior Sedans, it was good to see some competitive racing.

Connor Carse showed his dominance in the heats with Liam Butterworth and Hamish Chmielewski trying to chase him down.

Liam came out guns blazing in the feature but the track got the better of him and had a few spins on the corner.

Hamish kept improving every lap but it was Connor’s consistency that got him the chequered flag.

Hamish come in 2nd followed by Liam in 3rd.

It was great racing by three juniors who have only raced a handful of meets.

The top Star Junior Sedans had a great field of racers coming into their prime.

River was an early favourite but had some car issues, which his dad was furiously working on between the heats.

Sadly River car couldn’t be fixed but Liam Butterworth lent him his car so he could defend his title.

Jessica Foley was a surprise little pocket rocket. With the quickest time over the night she was one to watch.  T

he feature was a great race battle between the front runners Harrison Skerrett, Jessica Foley, Jamie Jones, and Hannah Tomkins.

Sadly Jessica and Hannah got flat tyres and was unable to finish.

Starting from the rear River made his way to third but was unable to catch the two front runner.  Jamie tried his hardest to take the lead from Harrison and it was a good battle to watch.

Harrison held his line and took the chequer with Jamie Jones coming in 2nd and River in 3rd.

Brett Thomsen once again screamed around the track in his green machine in the NT Sedans, defending his title against the local lads. Sadly due to a collision with another driver Brett kissed the wall and was put out for the night.

Brodie Reid put on a bit of a show with some hot flames shooting out from under his car but thankfully the infield volunteer were able to safely put it out.

It was left up to Brian Daniels and Stephen Quong to hold off Jack Yates, who dominated in the heat.

With smooth sailing around the track Jack took the title followed by Brian and then Stephen.

Lastly we had the Street Stocks.

Kane Lloyd and Shane Greening ventured to Tennant Creek to take on the local lads.

Throughout the heats there was some close racing.

Lucas Fry was quick but it was Jack Yates they had to beat.

Shane Greening had some issues with his car throughout the night and sadly in the feature he had to pull infield.

Lucas tried to put the pressure on Jack but Jack held on to take the feature out, followed by Lucas in 2nd and Michael Jones in 3rd and Kane in 4th.

A great night was had by all and we cannot thank those that travelled to put on a good show for the crowd.

Shout out to all our sponsors throughout the season and also our volunteers, without you we would not be able to race.

See you all Mayday Weekend in 2023.
