EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST
International Women’s Day Working Committee
Expressions of interest are invited from women in the community who would like
to take part in a working committee for International Women’s Day 2015.
This year’s theme, “Equality for women is progress for all”, emphasizes how gender
equality, empowerment of women and the eradication of poverty are essential to
economic and social development.
So join together and come to the rst meeting on Tuesday, November 11 at 10am at
Council Chambers, 41 Peko Road, for a brainstorm so we can celebrate on March 8
next year the ordinary women, both young and old, who have played an extraordinary
role in this community.
Applications close COB, Friday, October 24, and should be addressed to Barkly
Regional Council President Barb Shaw and emailed to email@example.com

PROPOSED CHANGES TO RULE BOOK:

Sec on of Rule Book: 8.4 - Becoming a Director by appointment
Delete exis ng clause 8.4.3 that reads: “The Board will have a respected person experienced with high
level boards and the provision of health or related services , who may not be a resident of the Barkly
Region, become a member of the board to provide advice on governance on a quarterly basis.”
To be replaced with clauses 8.4.3 and 8.4.4:
8.4.3: “ The Board may appoint up to three non-member Directors who are aboriginal but do not have
to reside in the Barkly Region provided they have exper se in clinical, governance or nancial ma e r s .”
8.4.4: “Non-member Directors cannot be appointed to Board execu ve posi ons.”
Reason for recommended change: As an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisa on
dealing with complex issues the Board relies on quality informa on to make decisions. This provides
the Board with the opportunity to enhance exper se as needed.
Sec on of Rule Book: 8.1 Numbers of Directors
Delete clause 8.1.2 point 2 that reads: “Ward Two – South Barkly 8 posi ons community nominated
community representa on by one person for Mungkarta, two posi ons for Ali Curung, one posi on

To be replaced with clause 8.1.2 that reads: “Ward Two – South Barkly 3 posi ons community
nominated community representa on by one posi on for Mungkarta and two posi ons for Ali Curung.”
Reason for recommended change: The exis ng clause was dra ed in an cipa on of Anyinginyi
becoming the sole provider of primary health services for the Barkly region. Since that me the
communi es of Epenarra, Canteen Creek, Murray Downs and Barrow Creek have elected, as is their
right, to be part of another region should regionalisa on eventuate.
The prosed change to the Rule Book would have no impact on the provision of services to any community.
