HOW fickle are the politics of Tennant Creek? 

Whether you agree with Jeff McLaughlin’s style or brand the fact remains – for years he devoted his time and expertise in the music industry to organising events that entertained and educated local kids. 

I had plenty of debates with Jeff and I know he was a staunch advocate for Aboriginal people and his runs are on the board to verify this. 

How the tide turns and the daggers come out when an opportunity arises to destroy the man. 

With due respect, reaction to the images splashed all over the media have been somewhat exaggerated – the boy was not injured and yet the crusaders have concocted some twisted comparison with the George Floyd murder in the USA.

The frustration of Tennant Creek residents who are under constant attack in their homes is discounted by the media in their desperate rush to sensationalise the issue. 

Many people would have to be thinking: “I would have done the same”. 

The fact that Jeff has had to pack up and evacuate his family from town due to threats made against both him and his family is a poor indictment of our society. 

The motivation behind this whole debacle will become clear as time passes, and anybody involved in instigating or making these threats should be prosecuted.
