Home' Tennant and District Times : 2018-0216 TDT Contents More action needed for
public interest of TC
I SAW an article in the NT News where
our local Member Gerry McCarthy
stated he had to sack the Palmerston
Shire Council because they had “not
acted in the public interest”
Whoa! Those words rang a bell – the exact
same words used to describe Gerry’s conduct,
by the Inquiry formed to investigate the
“Stella Maris Affair”.
Political hypocrisy in all its glory!
How about we get some action in the “public
interest” in Tennant Creek – I don’t know
anybody who hasn’t been affected by home
invasion recently, we see children wandering
the streets that should be at home, youths
out and about all hours looking for mischief
and anti-social behaviour is a common oc-
People don’t want to come and live here, ask
anybody trying to employ staff.
The residents of this town- from old folks to
children have a right to feel safe and secure
and to see a positive future.
You have installed yourself as a community
leader Mr McCarthy – man up and take some
responsibility – support and liaise with our
local police and be inclusive with the entire
community. And stop using the lack of fund-
ing as an excuse, there is plenty, it’s all about
how it’s used or indeed misused.
You never know, this year the NT News
might score you a bit better than the 3/10 for
effort, you got last year.
– G.D. Egan, Tennant Creek.
