Territory Day spectacular proves it’s better late than never!
1 min read

IT was almost two months late, but on Sunday night Tennant Creek headed to the showgrounds to celebrate Territory Day with an evening of music and fireworks.

Around a thousand people turned out to listen to performances set up by Barkly Regional Arts, from Last Resort, Gleny Rae, Sally Balfour, and Coloured Stone among others, and stayed for the fireworks display funded by the Northern Territory Government.

An extra bit of excitement worth mentioning, was the fire that started on the fence-line between the showgrounds and the Outback Caravan Park, caused by a fallen cracker let off in the caravan park.

In a reminder of the problems that can occur with fireworks, it took less than a minute for the flames to catch in the dry grass and flare up.

However, on a positive note, many who were attending, including a fair number of young people raced over to help douse the flames before it got out of hand, averting a nasty situation.

Well done to all those who helped with that situation.

An awesome evening of entertainment and fun that was really needed, and thanks go out to all those who made it happen.
