The Barkly wet drenches the region
1 min read

AUSTRALIA is a country of weather extremes, a couple of months back large parts of the Barkly were on fire, with it coming close to town.

The last couple of weeks, though, Tennant Creek saw the total opposite, with just over 310mm of rain falling in the last two weeks, the heaviest fall being recorded last Saturday at 110mm.

This has resulted in water over roads and highway closures, which briefly disrupted travel in and out of town, and unfortunately, some damage to roads.

Readers are reminded to drive to conditions as there may still be some hazards – check road reports before travelling.

On a brighter note though, Lake Mary Ann benefitted from the rain, and Seven Mile is running for the moment.

A little surprise for the town kids was the old bowling greens turned into a vast paddle pool with the amount of rain, although it isn’t likely to be significant competition for the town pool for long.
